How to Make a Halloween Mummy
Hanging pretend thick spider webs and home-made lanterns using Halloween pumpkins have become traditional, but here is an original way to decorate your home for your Halloween party. Try to remember to save all of your old newspapers before Halloween since you will need a large number to make your mummy. Make all the body parts from newspaper and tape everything together. If you have some bandages, wrap them around the body parts, but don't worry if you think bandages are too expensive as you can use white toilet paper. Obviously plain white toilet paper, which is very effective, provided you don't use paper with a flowery design as this will ruin the ghostly effect.

Once you have your mummy ready, you have to decide where to put him. Right behind the front door or in the dining room will give your guests a surprise. Think about putting your mummy in a place where nobody expects it, such as in the closet where people hang their coats up, or even in the bathtub. When people come across him in the bathroom, you will know by the scream. There will be plenty of happy amusement guaranteed.
If the first method of making your mummy is too difficult, another way is to tape together adult or child size clothes depending on the size you want your mummy. Next, stuff this with crumpled newspaper. Your end result will look just like a scarecrow and you can wrap that in toilet paper.
Rubber gloves are a wonderful way of making the hands. For more lifelike bandages, you could do worse than to use an old white bed sheet which you can cut into strips. For the head, blow up a balloon, or use a large size milk container. Don't stop wrapping your mummy until it is all covered, including the face. Eyes can be made using construction paper glued onto the face. Remember to make these as spooky as possible. Your mummy can be left white, or you can paint it in beige or brown to make it look older and more authentic. A good colour match could be made by soaking teabags in water and staining the tissue with that.
Making Your Life Sized Halloween Mummy
Most mummies will lie flat, but there is nothing to stop you sitting yours in a chair. You could even put it beside the table where the food is being served. In fact, wherever you decide to put it your life-size mummy will look great. You may find that towards the end of the evening, some of the tissue starts to come away but it doesn't matter if you just patch it up as best you can as the untidier it looks, the better. It is, after all, supposed to look like it's been dead a long time. When your Halloween party is over, you can pull your mummy apart, recycle the newspaper, and use the clothes again.
If making your own life-size mummy has inspired you, there's nothing to stop you taking the next step and dressing up like a mummy yourself. The same principle applies; you just need some help in having the tissue wrapped around you. With two identical mummies, nobody will know whether they're talking to you or when they're talking to the imitation mummy.
Enjoy your Halloween party, and if you do make your own mummy, you can rest assured that people will talk about your party for years to come.
